I'm not a resolutions person, but made two for this year: reading and walking.
I've started the new year with fifteen minutes of reading a day. With a timer it's a manageable amount of time for me. So far so good, also with the walking.
And... reading while you're eating, is not so good as studies have shown :)
Really good ideas. One I've started, and I think I learnt it from another substacker, was to download books to your phone (from borrowbox for me), then when you pick it up to go on social media etc, you can go to the book instead. Kinda like your idea of always having a book with you. I've downloaded a couple that i can easily dip in and out of.
Yep, and that's when you turn to social media. I also get stressed at the thought of not having a book when I'm going somewhere, if I'm going away, even for a night I take my ereader and a back up book! I have a book in the glove compartment of my car just in case and it has been used - when my ereader failed!
Great ideas thank you- I love reading and mainly keep my book pile on my bedside table. I spend too much time on the sofa scrolling so now always make sure I have a book to hand in the living room to pick up instead of the phone.
Hi Libby. I am recovering from chronic fatigue and often lie on the bed for an hour in the afternoons. While doing that I have the bad habit of scrolling a well known tabloid newspaper website which is just trash - and it makes my neck stiff by looking intently at my phone at that angle. I have decided to not do this and read instead. I'm reading Miranda Hart's book about how she recovered from fatigue and it is so good, enjoyable and pertinent to me. Much better than scrolling trash.
Brilliant, brilliant post - thanks, Libby - so many tips, including some that wouldn't have occurred to me!
At Christmas I celebrated a streak of five years of reading daily for pleasure, having had my passion for reading killed off for decades before that. It's dawned on me only recently that it's only once I started reading again that I also started WRITING.
Looking back it's an obvious connection, but one that's not obvious at all when life has got in reading's way......
I’m a big believer in not staying with a book that’s not doing it for me. There’s so many books there’s no time to waste on one that’s not hitting my notes for me.
Hi Libby, I've been keeping a book journal since 2014 and last year I broke my record and read 71 books! I find reading children's fiction in-between heavier books helps to keep your spirits up and your brain refreshed.
I wish I had started my journal years ago! And I agree about reading children's books - in fact children's fiction was my third most-read genre last year!

What lovely goals. Walking more was one of my goals too - in fact I am just back from a walk! Good for you!

Great idea about downloading books to your phone too! It really stresses me out to find myself waiting somewhere with no access to a book!

There are some lovely tips to help people read more in here.
I'm glad you enjoyed them - thank you for reading!
Wonderful post all these ideas resonate some much with me 😀 xx
I'm glad you enjoyed it - I enjoyed writing it! x
This is really inspiring! All your ideas are great, and I’ll definitely start a reading journal now!
I love keeping my reading journal - I just wish I'd started one years ago! Writing in it is one of my favourite relaxing activities.

Love this, especially the quote: "If you have time to scroll, you have time to read." !! You're so right, Libby.
Audiobooks have been a saviour for me since motherhood, but this week, I also got back into physically reading before bedtime. I've missed it!
